Importance of washing hand before eating

Dirty hands are the reproduction grounds for many diseases, both for the children and the adults. The children are more prone to falling ill as their bodies have low immunity power to tackle the diseases. One must be very cautious and wash hands thoroughly after he touches the pet animal at home. If he does not wash the hand and starts consuming food with the same hands, there are high probabilities that he would land up with some other infections and diseases. Hands must also be washed frequently when there is a sick person at home as there are more chances of spreading the illness if one is not careful and hygiene is not maintained.

Germs can spread through a number of ways like dirty hands, contaminated water and surfaces, dirty diapers, droplets released while coughing and sneezing, through sick person’s body fluid, etc.

First line of defense: Thorough hand washing is the first line of defense against the spreading of germs and other serious illness like hepatitis A, bronchitis, meningitis, influenza and a very common disease like infection diarrhea. When the kids come in contact with the germs, they can fall ill simply by touching eyes, mouth or nose or food intake.

The moment they are infected, it becomes hardly a matter of time when the whole family will fall ill. The best possible way to prevent illness is by frequently washing the hands of the kids as well as the adults who take care of the kid as the disease can easily affect anybody if one does not wash the hands properly while consuming foods.

Preventing ringworm: Ringworm is caused due to fungus that is spread through direct contact with the infected persons or animals. The fungus is often transferred if the hands are not washed properly with soap and water before consuming food. Mothers have to be extra careful while handling the patients or animals suffering from the disease as without the maintenance of proper hygiene the germs cannot  only be transmitted to herself but also to her baby as she is the one who is closest to the child.

Similarly, H1N1 virus can be averted if hands are washes properly before eating and hygiene is maintained. Since hands are the most effective ways of spreading infections, care should be taken to maintain proper hygiene of the hands, especially before eating.
