There is nothing wrong in carrying on your life as normal even when you are pregnant. The only thing here is to take precautions. Driving while pregnant dos not cause any harm to anyone and it is the most comfortable way to get around. It gives you the comfort of taking breaks as you wish either to stretch your legs or to go to the toilet.

While you may be comfortable driving during your first and second trimester doing so in the third trimester may be a little difficult and uncomfortable due to the large baby bump that you are carrying around. At this time it would be best for someone else to be the designated driver.

Precautions when you are driving

-When you are driving make sure that you have a car sticker stating that you are pregnant. This gets other drivers and vehicles to be cautious around you.

-Do not drive alone as far as possible. If you are alone then always let someone know where you are and the route that you are taking. Call in and report your safety and whereabouts to the person. Keep a cell phone with you at all times and have emergency services on speed dial.

-Do not drive long distances without taking a break. Stop after every few minutes and stretch your legs and take a bathroom break. Walk a few steps every time you stop to avoid leg cramps and to allow circulation in your muscles.

-Always have a bottle of water or juice with you. Take several sips frequently to avoid getting dehydrated.

-Always buckle up and get extensions for your seat belt. Do not strap it across your chest as you may be uncomfortable but wear it around our belly.

-Keep a pain of comfortable sandals or slippers in the car so that you can use them while driving rather that your normal shoe which may cause discomfort if you wear them for long.
