Insomnia is a condition where one is unable to sleep at night. This condition is characterized by restlessness and fatigue during the day. Finding a solution that helps you to rest well at night is a matter of disciplining yourself during the day.
The diet that you follow as well as the lifestyle that you lead hampers the quality of your sleep. Millions of people around the world suffer from this condition and thus you must introspect to see what measures you can take in order to enhance the quality of your sleep.
Let’s start with the easiest remedy. Did you know that drinking water during the day can help you to sleep better at night? Well, it does. When you drink plenty of water during the day harmful toxins are eliminated from your body and this helps to prevent acidity and gas during the night. Drinking water during the day prevents restlessness at night.
You need to form a bedtime routine in order to signal your body to calm down and relax. This is a good way to ensure that you sleep well at night. You must form a routine with a few activities that help you to calm down. Every person is different and will have different preferences. Personally, I like to take a shower before I sleep.
The warm water helps to relax my senses and calm my nerves. I add a few essential oils to my bath water as well. My personal favorite is lavender oil as it is therapeutic in nature. There are several other essential oils that you may choose from. Patchouli, orange, ylang ylang, jasmine and chamomile are commonly used in order to reduce stress and muscle tension. Avoid sitting in front of the computer and television at night as it may hamper your sleep cycle.
If you are addicted to caffeine then you must reduce your intake during the day and avoid drinking any caffeine based drink after 4 pm. Tea, coffee, aerated beverages and energy drinks are the common sources of caffeine. Caffeine can linger in your system for a long time and it hampers your rest time at night. Alcohol has the same effect on your body and thus you need to avoid drinking alcohol if you suffer from insomnia.
If your bedroom is cluttered or untidy then you may suffer from insomnia. In order to prevent this from happening you must keep your bedroom clean and tidy. Keep the décor minimal and intimate. Avoid gadgets in your room; this is your resting zone and the sanctity of the room needs to be maintained.
