Natural cures for stuffy nose

Stuffy nose or nasal congestion is the blockage of the nasal passages as the membranes lining the nose becomes swollen from inflamed blood vessels. There are many causes of nasal congestion, which can be very mild to ones that are life threatening. Nasal congestion can cause irritation and mild head and facial pain, which are very discomforting.

Natural remedies:

Mixing Tinctures: Mix a teaspoon of all the tinctures of Echinacea, marsh mallow, elder flower and thyme in equal parts and combine it with warm water. This natural remedy should be taken three times a day so as to clear the stuffy nose. This nature-cure is very helpful in clearing sinus congestion that goes along with yellow-green colored mucous.

Yarrow: Yarrow is an herb that is known to treat the mucous membranes of the nose as well as reduces the creation of mucous.

Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus is well-known for its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. A natural and effective home remedy is by adding 15 grams of eucalyptus to 750 ml. of boiling water and inhaling the steam for 10-15 minutes. Besides this, five to ten drops of eucalyptus essential oil can also be used to make it a remedy.

Sniffing onion: Simply sniffing or smelling onion stimulates the nose to run and unblocks the stuffiness.

Chicken’s Soup: Intake of mom’s hot chicken soup or any other hot fluid, leads to help the steam of the fluid unclog the nasal passage and remove the stuffiness from the nose thereby making it easier to breathe.

Showers: Breathing the steam from the hot shower is the easiest way of cutting the mucous and keeping it from becoming thick, thereby combating the stuffiness of the nose.

Besides these aspects, ginger, humidifier, apple cider vinegar, onions, zinc, vitamin C, etc. are many a natural ingredients that help in clearing the nasal congestion or stuffiness of the nose.
