Colitis is a condition where the rectum and colon go through severe inflammation. This inflammation leads to sores forming on the body especially on the top layer of the intestine. Common symptoms of this condition include fever, diarrhea, loss of appetite and bleeding ulcers.
There are several home remedies that you can try to keep this condition under control. If you are suffering from diarrhea or nausea as a result of this condition then you must drink plenty of fluids in order to maintain your body’s hydration. Water is the best form of hydration; though you must also drink plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Lemonade and lemon tea ease the discomfort of colitis. You must also drink soup. Clear soups and those that are free from acidity are good for the body as they offer the body essential nutrients.
You also need to eat foods that are low in fiber. This will reduce the diarrhea. Avoid dairy products like milk, cheese and butter. In addition to this you must also avoid all greasy foods.
Apples, bananas and papaya are beneficial and you must include them as a part of your daily diet. These fruits can be eaten ripe or blended into smoothies or juices.
Buttermilk also benefits the body when it is fighting colitis. This fat free residue of yogurt helps to soothe the inflammation and cures the ulcers.
In order to reduce the ulcers in your body and prevent them from bleeding you must drink plenty of tender coconut water. The soothing cooling effect of the fresh water will soothe the inflammation and prevent the ulcers from erupting.
Raw cabbage and carrot juice is also beneficial to the body if you are suffering from colitis.
Your diet plays a huge role in the severity of the condition. If you do not pay attention to the food that you eat it will result in the condition getting worse and difficult to control. Foods that are seasoned with spices, tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages and those that are processed with refined sugar must be avoided. In addition to this you must avoid cooking your food in aluminum cookware.
