Swelling in the elbow is extremely painful and it limits your movement. It makes the joint feel tight and stiff as a result you are unable to move with ease. It is a common issue after an injury and it leads to fever and severe unbearable pain. If this happens for more than 48 hours then you must seek medical attention. Many people are looking at home and natural remedies to treat this issue as they are effective and do not have any side effects.

If there is severe inflammation in the elbow then you must add honey to warm water and drink it. The honey will help to ease the inflammation and cure the pain that is caused as a result of the swelling. Honey is also effective in curing a fever. Remember that is it not advisable to massage the area in the case of a swelling. The excess pressure that is exerted during the massage will cause tissue damage and can be fatal to your limb.

Arnica is an herb that helps to ease the stress on the joint due to its anti inflammatory properties. It helps to heal broken cartilages and bones.

In order to make sure that the swelling subsides and that the bone heals quickly you must avoid exerting pressure or weight on your hand. This will ensure that the swelling heals well and does not lead to any further injuries. Do this till there is no more swelling.

Using a cold compress is also very effective. Wrapping ice in a cloth or using an ice pack on the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes will help to heal the swelling and reduce the pain that is caused as a result of the injury. Repeat the cold compress every 2 to 3 hours so that you are able to get rid of the swelling completely.

Exercise to reduce the pain and to help to tone the muscles. Do not start any sort of exercise regime till you get the permission of your doctor to do so. Exercises that help to tone the muscles will be effective in this case and they will help to heal the elbow and reduce the stress on the area.

Do not lean on your elbows even after the swelling has subsided. The additional weight and pressure that you exert on the area can led to injuring it or lead to swelling and inflammation even if it has already subsided.
