Natural Treatment For Thrush

Candida is a type of yeast present in our body and it does not harm initially. If it is produced excessively, it can lead to a painful and irritating disease called thrush.

Yes, this disease is commonly seen in women’s vagina producing a white viscous fluid, pain and itching. These are even found in men’s penis and infants. Oral thrush infects grown-ups and infant’s mouth causing white swollen abnormality, pain and bleeding. These days, stress, unhygienic food, chemicals and drugs have ruined our immune system so much, that natural and herbal treatments are required to heal the infection. Some of them are discussed below.

Proper Nutrition:

Diet plays a significant role in the treatment of thrush. It is most important to keep your system healthy from inside, if you want a permanent solution to this problem. You should consume foods that are more acidic or less alkaline to maintain the ph of the body as thrush increases more in the alkaline mediums. These include fruits like cranberry, blue berry, vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, beetroot, dairy products, Soya, lean meat, etc. Make sure that yogurt and garlic are consumed in bulk.

You should avoid starchy foods and carbohydrates like rice and white flour, foods having yeast like breads, processed foods, artificial sweeteners and alcohol. These will turn into sugar and won’t let the infection dry easily.

Cleanliness:

It is very important to keep your private areas clean. Light and fresh air also destroys any such harmful microbes. For this, you should first clean your whole body, specially the areas which get affected most. Do not use any synthetic soap as they are highly alkaline; rather opt for herbal or homeopathic soaps. You should also sterilize the bottles, nipples, baby’s toys, nappies and clothes with herbal disinfectants. Try to wear loose fitted, cotton clothes and do the same with your baby.

Yogurt:

Yogurt is the most effective remedy for thetreatment of thrush. It contains acidophilus compounds, which kills the germs without any kind of irritation. Therefore, you should consume at least one cup of homemade yogurt every morning. A handful of yogurt can be applied on the affected area. This heals the infection, and also gives a soothing effect to the skin. Make sure that the yogurt does not contain any addition sugar or preservative as it will help the thrush to expand.

Garlic:

Garlic is another natural remedy, which can completely cure the disease because of its high anti-fungal property. Whole garlic should be used in your daily cooking. Garlic tablets are also available in the markets, which can be taken for additional benefits. You can even try to apply garlic pod or garlic paste wrapped in fine cloth on the infection. It can hurt a bit but will give much relief afterwards.

Apple Cider Vinegar:

Everyone is generally aware of the benefits of Apple cider vinegar. If not, let me tell you about it. Apple cider vinegar is one the best herbal medicine that can be used for curing thrush because of its anti-fungal properties. It can be taken along with honey early in the morning for curing the infection internally. You can also apply these on the infected areas but dilute it with water before applying. Normally, one tablespoon of the vinegar is mixed with one cup of water.

Clove Oil:

Clove oil has great anti-fungal properties and is very suitable for curing oral thrush. It can be rubbed directly on the affected area. As this oil is very strong, it is not suitable for infants. If you cannot tolerate the strong taste of this oil, you can surely dilute it with coconut oil.

Pure Coconut Oil:

There are many natural remedies for the treatment of thrush but pure and unrefined coconut oil requires special mention, because it is very suitable for pregnant women, infants and lactating mothers. It contains caprylic acid, which kills the fungi. You can use this oil for cooking your food and can even apply it on the affected areas like child’s mouth, nipples of the mother, etc.

Herbal Oil For Infants:

Infants cannot tolerate most of the strong aromatic herbal oils that are used for the treatment. Though some oils like tea tree oil, grape fruit seed oil, etc. are suitable for them. However, these oils can be used by anyone suffering from thrush. You must dilute tea tree oil with 80% water and wash the area with the solution. Grape fruit oil can also be used in a similar manner for curing the infection.

Other Herbal Aromatic Oil:


Aromatic oils disinfect the disease and also give much relief from the irritation caused by the infection. Some oils like Thyme tea, lavender oil, juniper oil, etc. are used for aroma therapy. You can put few drops of any of these oils into warm water and relax in the bath tub for 25-30 minutes. This will be of great help.

There are some other types of oils, which are edible. These include prime rose oil, blackberry tea, etc. If you consume these oils early in the morning or in the evening, it will reduce your stress and also flush out toxins from your body.

Natural Herbs:

There are many herbs that give significant results in curing thrush. Herbs have fewer side effects and thus can be used without tension. However, it is advised that you check the instruction for each herb, while purchasing. Echinacea is one such herb whose boiled liquor can be consumed in order to enhance the immune system.

Regular intake of this liquor for at least one month will give better result. Wormwood is another type of herb, which can be taken in order to check any excess production of Candida yeast in your body. Similarly, a few drops of Nasturtium flower extract in your everyday shower can cleanse any trace of thrush infection.

Psyllium Seeds:

Psyllium seeds are available in the herbal medicine shops. You need to soak these seeds in water for overnight and they will start swelling. After this, the seeds will transform into a gel-like substance, and you can apply this on the affected area. Continue for one month to get total relief.
