Being confident does not come naturally to everyone. Not all of us have the perfect features or physical appearance of those beautiful looking fashion models on television. But, that does not mean that we have to lack self-confidence.

Most of us do not have the confidence to stand up in front of a crowd and say whatever it is you need to say. Self-confidence lacks in us because we are shy or get embarrassed easily and feel everyone will laugh or mock us. Confidence cannot be gained overnight.

First of all you need to realize that you need to respect and love yourself. Next you need to find all your insecurities, things that embarrass you easily like your appearance, or acne or even your weight, even small things in your life like your friends laughing at your old jeans or haircut. Do not let other people’s words or actions put you down.

Just brush it away with a joke or ignore it. You should never let yourself ever feel that someone else is better than you and you do not deserve what you have or what you are. Feeling and acting important always boosts your confidence. But don’t overdo this or your friends and family may think of you as someone who is very rude and stuck up.

When you’re trying to build your confidence, start small. If you are shy of talking in front of a crowd you don’t know, talk to your family and friends about it. If you have to give a speech or raise the toast at one of you family members’ weddings, practice with your family as your audience or even in front of a mirror. It really helps. Remember you are not perfect and neither is that host of your favorite television show. We all make mistakes. After all, we are human.

Once you are on that road of developing confidence in your self, you need to remember your successes. Every time you think you will not be able to raise that toast, think of all the times you gave a perfect speech and did not falter. This will help you boost your confidence even more. To maintain your self-confidence you need to express yourself the best way you can, whether it is through dance, art, music or anything you love doing. Being positive and always smiling also helps build your confidence. So remember smile, be happy and confidence will come naturally.
