Peptic Ulcer: Causes and Treatment

The eroded lesion in the inner lining of our stomach is termed as peptic ulcer. Peptic ulcer is combined name give to two different types of ulcer, i.e., the gastric ulcer and the duodenal ulcer. The ulcer that occurs in the stomach is termed as gastric ulcer and the ulcer which occurs in the duodenum is termed as duodenal ulcer.

The symptoms of peptic ulcer include severe pain in the upper part of the stomach which causes a sort of discomfort. If you experience pain after taking your meal, it may be a symptom of gastric ulcer. In case of duodenal ulcer, the pain is experienced in the time between before and after taking the meals and when the stomach is empty. You may get a quick relief from this pain after you eat something. Peptic ulcer may lead to various health complications like insomnia, stress, constipation, weakness and tiredness. In some cases you may observe blood in the stool.

An increase in the level of hydrochloric acid in the stomach is known as the condition of hyperacidity and hyperacidity is the basic factor responsible for the problem of peptic ulcer. The main source producing the hydrochloric acid is the cells lining the stomach. Hyperacidity may happen due to consumption of spicy foods, strong coffee or tea, overeating, consumption of alcohol, taking heavy meals etc. Sometimes emotional disturbance due to anxiety or the nerves stress may also cause hyperacidity. Other factors responsible for hyperacidity include food poisoning, indigestion, consumption of infectious food etc.

There are various home remedies for the treatment of peptic ulcer. Infusion of wood apple leaves is very effective in treatment of peptic ulcer. Take 10 to 20 grams of wood apple, leave them soaked in water for whole night. Drink this water while getting up in the morning. You will get a quick relief from the peptic ulcer. The pain will reduce very quickly. As indigestion can be factor leading to peptic ulcer, hence lime juice can be helpful in treatment of peptic ulcer. Taking lime juice on a regular basis twice a day will be very effective treatment of peptic ulcer.
