Portion Control for Weight Loss

Understanding the amount of food your body needs is the key to loosing weight. Most dieters fail because they cut down on fatty foods and sugary treats; however they binge on other foods and this leads to weight gain. This leads to frustration and the dieter gives up hope of loosing weight. We live in an age where electronics are getting smaller and portion sizes are getting bigger. Some healthy foods are delicious and hence we tend to eat them in lager portions. Though bananas help in digestion and regulate bowel movements they are also a huge source of sugar and thus eating them in large portions may lead to weight gain. In the same manner there are several other foods that have the same impact on the body if they are eaten in large portions.

How to control portions?

Controlling portions when you eat at home is not as easy as you may think. When you sit in front f the television you tend to munch on chips and cookies and before you know it you have eaten an entire pack. There are a few measures you can take to control your portions when you eat at home. You can start with using smaller sized cutlery. If you eat in large bowls or plates you will eat larger portions. Avoid serving yourself more than once. You must eat slowly so that you give your body time to signal when it is full. Avoid eating directly from the carton or the bag; always serve yourself in a bowl or plate so that you are able to control the amount of food you eat.

At a restaurant do not feel shy to order the kid sized meals or order the small or regular size meal. If you order a medium meal then divide the meal into 2 portions and split it with someone else or simply take one portion home with you. The same rule applies for desserts.
