Almost every pregnant woman is worried about the ugly marks and silver streaks on her skin. This leads to one loading up on creams and lotions in order to prevent the marks from appearing. No matter how much care you take of your skin you are bound to have a few silver streaks run across your tummy.

Remember that this is a natural phenomenon and there is very little you can do to keep your skin completely free of marks. As your baby grows inside your stomach; the collagen and elastin in your skin is stretched.

One of the most effective ways to prevent stretch marks on your skin is to maintain a steady weight gain throughout your pregnancy. This can be done by eating well and exercising regularly. If you gain weight slowly then your skin is able to cope with the weight gain and this helps to control the amount of stretch marks on your skin.

Using creams and lotions that are formulated to reduce the impact of stretch marks is a good idea. The formulas are created to reduce the scars on your skin.

It is a good idea to use the cream on your stomach, thighs and buttocks from the first month of your pregnancy. You must also use a generous amount of moisturizing lotion on your skin in order to increase the elasticity of the skin.

Microdermabrasion and Laser Therapy are two ways to get rid of the scars on your skin. However these must be administered only once you have stopped breast feeding the child. These treatments increase the amount of elastic in the skin and promote the cell renewal process. There are very few reported cases of side effects.

One must keep in minds that stretch marks fade with time. Though most women tend to get sensitive about them and tend to loose self confidence they must bear in mind that these scars are a reminder of a great joy in their life. Use a moisturizing cream on the affected area daily after a bath and massage the area gently; this will help to get rid of the scars on your skin. Personally, I am proud of the stripes on my stomach; they are the evidence of my beautiful baby girl.
