Preventive Tips for Flu and Influenza

Influenza or flu accompanied with body aches and pains, a running nose and headaches. On the whole a person who has the flu feels like they would be better off if they had not woken up at all. The most common reason for getting infected with flu is a weak immune system. Due to the inability of your immune system to defend itself against the virus you fall sick and feel weak. By following a few basic rules you can ensure that you don’t fall sick and avoid getting the flu.It is important that you maintain hygiene at all times. Avoid eating from utensils used by someone who is sick. Sometimes we unknowingly tend to drink from the same cup or eat from the same plate that has been used by a loved one. If that person is sick then it is highly likely that germs can get transferred from them to you through used eating and drinking utensils.

Wash your hands regularly especially before and after meals. In case you have gone outdoors in public places then ensure that when you return home you wash your hands and face thoroughly before interacting with your household members.

This prevents germs that you could have contracted from spreading and infecting others. Cover your mouth while coughing to avoid spreading your germs into the air. Use a hand kerchief or the joint of your elbow to sneeze into as it is effective in capturing germs. Again remember to wash your hands before touching anyone if you have a cough and cold.

Boost your immune system by taking appropriate vitamins and supplements. Fortifying your immune system will build your immunity and help you fight disease causing germs. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables as they contain Vitamin C which helps to boost immunity. Sources that are rich in vitamin C are oranges, broccoli and tomatoes.

Drink plenty of water and have fruit juices. Make sure that you hydrate your body often. Drink at least 7-8 glasses of water daily as this helps to flush out toxins from your body and improve your immunity. You can also choose to have herbal teas as they are full of antioxidants which are beneficial to the body.

Make sure that you are well rested. Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep daily and exercise regularly to fortify your immune system. Yoga and meditation are good ways to relax the body and mind and also help you cope with stress which has an adverse effect on your immunity.
