Reasons Why Your Children Need a Healthy Breakfast

Why do kids need to have breakfast? A healthy breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for growing children. Children who have breakfast are known to be more attentive at school, do academically better especially in mathematics and reading and have better scores on their tests than children who skip breakfast. Kids who eat a healthy wholesome breakfast everyday are healthier and less likely to fall sick often. They are more participative in school activities and tasks. They are more attentive and respond regularly in the classroom. They show few behavioral problems, are absent from school very rarely, are never tardy and have few visits to the doctors.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It reduces the risk of obesity and heart diseases because children who eat a healthy breakfast do not feel hungry before lunch. My father always says “Breakfast means ‘breaking your fast’ since the previous night.” Skipping breakfast will not only make children weak but they also tend to have low levels of energy and get extremely tired by the end of the day.

Various types of healthy breakfast can now be found in plenty on the shelves of our supermarkets. A healthy breakfast would be one that consists of proteins, minerals vitamins, iron etc. Cereals with milk would be one of the best breakfast meals. Adding honey, fruits or even yogurt to your kid’s breakfast will increase the nutritional value of the meal. This would provide your child’s diet with starch, proteins, sugar, fats and carbohydrates. All these are necessary to keep your child fit, strong, healthy and provide the energy a child needs to grow. Breakfast should also include a glass of fruit juice.

Avoid giving your kids any sort of fried foods and fast foods for breakfast as they are unhealthy, very addictive and fatty and make children obese at a young age. Porridge is very healthy for any growing child and should be had at least once a week.

Eating a well balanced healthy breakfast constitutes of fibers, vitamins, minerals, proteins etc. Children mostly observe parents and follow their actions. So parents need to have breakfast too. This will encourage their children lead healthy and fit lives. Remember eating breakfast is the best way to start your day and live a healthy life.
