October 20, 2008

Are you facing the problem of joint pain, swelling or redness of your eyes? It may be Reiter’s syndrome. In Reiter’s syndrome the symptoms observed are the redness of eyes, infection in urinary tract, joint problem like arthritis etc. It leads to joint infection, swelling, inflammation, pain and redness of eyes.

A Reiter’s syndrome which is developed due to bacterial infection as a result of eating infected food, is termed as gastrointestinal Reiter’s syndrome whereas the Reiter’s syndrome in which vagina, penis, urethra of bladder are infected is termed as urogenital Reiter’s syndrome. Urogenital Reiter’s syndrome can be transmitted from one person to another during sexual intercourse. As the tissues of various body organs in Reiter’s syndrome are injured and this leads to inflammation and pain.

Infection in joints due to Reiter’s syndrome leads to arthritis. The person with this syndrome experiences a constant pain in joints, swelling around the joint etc. In case you find these symptoms in you, the best way is to consult a doctor for diagnosis. The patients of this disease are advised to take proper rest as taking rest is very helpful in this disease. However, performing a regular and sensible mild body exercise may ease the muscle and joint movement and can give relief from the pain. You can take antibiotics prescribed by doctor but ensure that you never take antibiotics on you own diagnosis because the antibiotics prescribed depend on the type of infection.

Taking medicine without a doctor’s consultancy may lead to other health complications. Certain drugs are also helpful in this disease. In case the pain is severe, you can use some pain killer. The nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs given in this syndrome are very helpful in reducing pain and inflammation of joints. In case these drugs are non-effective, doctors prescribe corticosteroids injection, which can be effective. A long term intake of these medicines may lead to other health complications. In case you find any abnormality, you should consult your doctor immediately. A balanced diet, consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables and a mild regular exercise are the other factors helpful in treatment of Reiter’s syndrome.
