Eye allergies must be treated with a lot of care to avoid long term damage. I prefer trying out a few home and herbal remedies before using any prescriptive medication. In most cases the allergies are caused by dust or dirt entering the eyes. This may lead to water being discharged from your eyes or your eyes turning red. Your eyes may also begin to generate heat due to the dirt rubbing against it.
The first thing you must do when you experience such allergies is wash your eyes with ice cold water. Splash it in your eyes and let the water wash away the dirt. Never rub your eyes as you may spread the dirt or send it deeper into your eyes.
If you constantly suffer from such allergies then it may be the heat that is causing the irritation. In this case you must wash your eyes with rose water. The rose water is extremely cooling and helps to cool the eyes and wash away the dirt from your eyes. Eating a spoon of Indian gooseberry powder mixed with honey also helps. You need to do this every day during the summer months.
If you wear contact lenses; then you must wash your lenses well. Using them without taking the right precautions can lead to allergies. Check them with your eye care practitioner. Change your lenses as per the prescription. Always make sure that your hands are clean before you take off your lenses.
To improve the condition of your eyes; eat carrots or drink a glass of carrot juice daily. The juice must be mixed with a spoon of honey if you have an allergy.
When you are exposed to the sun; wear protective sun glasses to avoid the sun causing allergies and watery discharge from your eyes.
