Lips are one of the most sensitive parts of our body. They easily become a major target of dryness and sunburn that leaves ugly patches on its surface. Dark lips can be the result of many things. Some people may have it by birth and some may have it due to liver problems.
But most of the times, it happens because of smoking, sun burn, use of harmful chemical based creams, excessive consumption of caffeine, using cheap lipsticks or lip balms etc. The problem of dark lips can be easily cured at home by two ways: by adopting some good habits and by using some natural products to eradicate darkness.
Heavy smoking usually causes darkening of the lips. Smoking leads to dehydration and increases the melanin production of the body; hence, the lips and the areas around it look dry and blackish. Too much consumption of tea or coffee does the same thing to our lips. So, try to control your smoking rate as well as the daily caffeine intake.
It is also very important for women to use light make-up products that contain no harmful chemicals. Chemicals can react with the skin of your lips and give it a dark and dull look. Our lips are soft, delicate and hypersensitive, hence instead of using chemical based products on them it is better to opt for herbal ones.
Use These Home Remedies To Say Goodbye To Dark Lips
Rub lemon juice and honey on your lips. Leave it for 15 minutes until it is properly absorbed. Then wash it off with water. The citric acid in lemon reacts with the skin and works as a bleaching agent. Repeat this on alternate days.
Peanut butter helps in moisturizing your lips. It keeps your lips soft and eradicates excessive dryness. It also works well in lightening the color of your lips.
Take 1 tablespoon of milk, ½ tablespoon of butter and 2 finely crushed almonds. Mix them well and apply the mixture on your lips. Massage it gently. Keep it for 30 minutes and wash it off.
Last but not the least, when you go out in the sun, avoid applying petroleum jelly on your lips as it makes the skin prone to sunburn. Always opt for a good quality lip balm that can protect your lips from sunburn.
