An insect bite is normal but in certain cases it leads to the formation of a rash and this can be dangerous. For most stings home care is all that is needed; however one must make sure that you take the necessary care immediately. If you find an insect sitting on you; then you must try and brush it off immediately. Never attempt to kill the insect as it may sting you during the attempt. Brush it away with a paper or attempt to disturb it by moving the part of the body that it is sitting on.
If the insect is already in the process of stinging you then you must remove it from your skin with the help of a card or your nail. Make sure you wash your hands and the area immediately with warm water and a mild disinfectant. If you fear that the insect has left venom then you must avoid pinching the skin as it may move the poison further into the body. You must seek medical help in this case.
If you notice swelling then rub ice on the area and elevate the part of the body. If the sting is on any part of the body that you wear jewelry on and it is causing irritation then you must remove all ornaments till the rash gets cured.
If the area is itching then you must apply calamine lotion. Do not cover the area but let the skin breathe. A rash caused by an insect bite takes a few days to heal and you should not get alarmed if you do not see any change in the rash for as long as 5 days. If you begin to feel light headed or dizzy as a result of the insect bite then you must lie down with your head on the floor and your legs higher then your head. This will allow the blood to flow to the brain. If blisters form on the area then you must take care not to let it erupt as the puss from it may spread and cause a larger rash. Clean the area regularly and when the blister bursts use a cotton ball to clean the area. Apply a disinfectant after you wash the area thoroughly.
