Self Care Tips For Chapped Lips

Dry winters or extreme hot summers leave your lips constantly feeling dry and chapped. Other reasons, apart from weather could be thyroid disorders which cause your skin and hair to dry up. Some people are also in the habit of constantly biting their lips and never seem to get rid of the habit no matter what. Sometimes deficiency of certain vitamins could also cause this. Whatever the reason is, one thing is for sure, all of us want to sport soft supple moisturized kissable lips all day long. Here are a few simple tips to help you achieve those super looking lips.

The simplest solution is to always carry a chap stick with you and keep applying it throughout the day. If regular chap sticks don’t help and your lips are extremely chapped, try looking for medicated lip balms which offer better protection.

Cracked lips are going to take a few days to heal and it advisable to stay away from foods which are spicy or very salty till then. As this kind of food will further worsen the situation, plus it can also cause your lips to burn.

If you are in a place where the weather is very dry and you are forced to be outdoors for most parts of the day, make sure to protect your lips with a heavy lip balm and keep re applying every few minutes to prevent further damage.

When you are indoors, use heavy ingredients such as goose fat which is an ancient cure for chapped lips. Bird fat on my lips! No way! If this is what you are thinking, try applying castor oil, which is thick and has qualities to quickly soften dry skin.

When your lips are dry, it is very tempting to peel off the dry skin in an effort to make the surface look even. Don’t ever peel the dry skin off as this will be very painful and can cause bleeding. Instead, during a bath use a gentle face scrub on your lips, this will help remove the excess dry skin. Alternately, you could even use coarsely powdered sugar mixed with castor oil, this will give you double benefits of exfoliating and moisturizing.

Also, if you are a smoker avoid smoking till your lips heal, or better, think of giving up the habit completely to give you long term benefits.

Always remember, that prevention is better than cure. Once you have successfully managed to heal your chapped lips using the above tips, keep a chap stick with you everyday and keep moisturizing your lips.
