
An allergy is usually a reaction to a product that hasn’t agreed with your body. Skin allergies could be the result of a new product that you have used on your skin or it could also be something that you have eaten. Your skin can get itchy, turn red and can probably break out. There are different types of skin allergies some not so serious which can easily be dealt with at home, whereas some are serious and will require medical attention.
If your skin is itchy, do not scratch it with your nails. This can result in the condition getting worse. Try washing the affected area with lukewarm water. If the itch is unbearable, use a towel and rub gently over the affected area. Try applying ice over the affected area. You can wrap the ice in a towel on use it on the skin. If the skin was itchy due to an allergy to dust or a simple insect bite, this will help in calming it down.
If you have started using a new skin care or cosmetic product, discontinue using it for a few days till the allergy subsides. Test the product on a smaller patch to see if the skin reacts to it again. If the itching starts, do not use the product at all. Look for the customer service number that is usually on the tube to get more information.
If you have extremely sensitive skin, some fabrics can also react badly with skin. If a new shirt or a dress you bought does not agree with your skin, get out of it immediately.
Change into something soft and comfortable. Wear soft cotton clothing till the allergy subsides.
If a part of the skin has turned red, it is a good idea to air it out. Wear loose fitting clothes which allow your skin to breathe naturally.
There are creams available which are specially made to give you relief from itching. Try using this on your skin. Alternately, try applying aloe vera gel on the affected area. Aloe vera has amazing medicinal properties can cure most skin disorders. You can also try using a peppermint gel. It has cooling qualities which can help to reduce itching and burning sensations.
If the itching or the redness does not subside within 2 to 3 days, make sure to consult your doctor.
