Shoulder pain could be a result of something as simple as bad sleeping posture or carrying a heavy sling bag everyday. There are other causes which could be more serious and will require proper medical attention. If the pain is very severe and you have been suffering from it for a very long time, it is advisable to consult your doctor. You might require physiotherapy and proper medication to help you.
You need to first analyze the reason that’s causing the pain. If you can’t think of anything serious that could have caused the pain try these simple remedies at home to get relief.
If you carry a heavy bag to work everyday and are in the habit of carrying it on the same shoulder, try switching it to the other shoulder for a few days. Or try and see if you can remove the unnecessary things out of your bag to make it lighter. You can also look for small trolley bags which look professional and can be used for office everyday.
If you sleep on the same side everyday, try sleeping on your back. This might take you sometime to adjust to, but it will help ease the pain. When we sleep on one side everyday, we put too much pressure on that particular shoulder which causes it to get stiff.
When you wake up every morning, try some simple neck and shoulder rotations which help the shoulder loosen up.
You should also engage yourself in some form of exercise everyday, look for simple yoga postures which help relieve shoulder pain.
If you have a desk job and you need to work on the computer the entire day, try doing some neck and shoulder rotations during the day. This helps increase the blood supply to the joints and provides relief.
If the pain is severe, look for ointments or massage oils meant especially to relieve the pain. Alternately, you could also apply eucalyptus oil which is highly effective to get rid of body pain. Get someone else to rub this on your shoulder. Make sure that the person uses gentle strokes. Do not ask a friend or family member, unless they are trained professionally to give you a massage.
If the pain isn’t something serious, trying all of the above tips will help you. But if the pain does not subside within a few days, you should consult your doctor for medical advice.
