Stress relief exercises
Stress is the body’s physical, mental and chemical reaction to circumstances that panic, stimulate, puzzle, endanger or annoy us. A number of researches have proven that exercises or physical work-out is the best reliever of tension. Exercise, when done in a proper way, gives the body an opportunity to operate or work in a proper manner. Nothing other than exercise can handle stress in the correct way. Physical, mental, spiritual form of exercising or a combination of all three, can be used to relieve stress.
Physical exercise is one of the most effective ways of relieving stress. It helps to bump up the brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters called endorphins, gets the body into better shape, and improves the mental and as well as physical health. Again regular exercise boosts one’s self confidence and lowers the symptoms of mild depression and anxiety that are associated with stress.
Walking: Walking helps in the triggering the release of endorphins, a potent brain chemical that relieves pain and stimulate relaxations. The more one’s body has a high level of endorphins, the greater the sense of calm and well-being prevails within a person’s mind and body. It is an exercise that can be easily practiced by anybody at any given period of time. In short, walking makes one feel relaxed, good, calm and unstressed.
Stretching: Stretching exercises arouses the receptors in the nervous system that diminish the creation of the stress hormones. These exercises also calm down the tight, stressed muscles and increase the flow of blood inside the muscles.
Swimming: Swimming is an excellent stress relaxation exercise that soothes the stressed and tensed nerves and muscles while getting the body into a better physical shape. It is a good way of releasing all negative energy, elevates the mood that deals with the negative effects of the stressful situations.
Deep breathing: This exercise simply involves breathing in deeply and holding it for two to four seconds. This is again followed by the exhaling of the breath while counting till five.
Yoga: Yoga is the oldest defined practice of self development. Methods of classical yoga include ethical disciplines, physical postures, meditation and breathing control, each of which are extremely effective in the reduction of stress.
