Symptoms and Remedies for Common Cold

Common cold does not have a remedy, all you can do is to wait for the cold to run its path and take care of the symptoms instead. There are several home remedies that you can try to get rid of the symptoms or shorten the duration of the cold.

When you suffer from a cold you have lowered immunity. The bacteria enter different parts of your body and causes difficulty in breathing, shortened breath and chest pain. Vitamin C is the answer to this problem. It boosts your immune system. You can choose to have supplements or eat citrus fruits, oranges or grape fruits.

Garlic has antibiotic properties and helps to relieve cold. Chew a piece of garlic or have a garlic supplement to get rid of the cold naturally.

Chicken soup has been used for years in the cure of the common cold. Eating soup piping hot helps to relieve the congestion. The vapors help to reduce the mucus build up and makes it thin thereby helping to eliminate it with ease. The broth helps to get rid of the symptoms as it has anti inflammatory properties.

Menthol is an effective cure. Use it on your chest, back, temples on your head and your nose and forehead at night so that you breathe in the vapors and help to life the common cold by morning. Avoid direct blasts of air when you are trying this remedy.

You can also add eucalyptus oil to cure the symptoms of the cold. Boil a few mugs of water and add the oil to it. Put your head over the bowl of water and cover your head with a towel in such a way that it helps to enclose all the vapors and does not let any escape. Breathe the fumes till you feel relived and can feel the congestion lesser.
