I looked at my neighbor’s son intentionally for the second time and wondered whether it was yet another one of his new fads. I saw silver streaks on the 23 year olds head and laughed. When I met his mother a few days later I inquired about his royal mane, to which she sobbed saying that her son was graying and that he was beginning to be the butt of jokes for his friends.

Poor diet and extreme stressful environments cause premature graying of hair. In the first stage one must apply heated almond oil to the scalp daily and wash off with luke warm water. One can also try using the butter made from cow’s milk. Massage it deep into the scalp and wash off after 1 hour.

No matter what advice your friends may give you, shaving your head is not the answer. You may try using hair color but that only works as a camouflage. Under the color your hair will continue to grey.

Avoid sugars in large quantities like in jams, jellies and aerated or fizzy drinks. These not only cause premature graying but also cause various skin allergies and disorders. Avoid spicy foods and foods that are deep fried. Introduce juices like cucumber, grapefruit, watermelon and vegetables like carrot and tomato in your diet.

While premature graying may also be due to heredity one must make sure to maintain hygiene at all times. Washing ones hair on a daily basis doesn’t harm. Do not use warm water, use luke warm water. Never, Ever towel-dry your hair, either let it dry naturally or use an electric dryer.

While another factor is stress, one must remember that any change in the stress levels causes fluctuation of nutrients in the body. Hence introducing additional supplements in your diet may help.
