All foods that we consume should be consumed in the right proportion to be beneficial to our health. Some foods such as soy have both a positive as well as a negative effect on the human body. Due to this the consumption of Soy needs to be regulated so that it is not harmful. Soy is a protein and it contains all the amino acids that a person may require to help sustain their body. The body cannot make or create these amino acids and it is normally acquired through the break down of meats and poultry products. If you are a vegetarian then you would have difficulties getting the right amounts of these essential amino acids. This can be avoided with the help of soy which is a great supplement to meat obtained from killing animals.

Soy can be found almost everywhere and has taken different shapes and forms. It is available as nuggets, milk, various types of tofu, soy protein powder, soy hot dogs and even as edamame (natural state of Soy).

Soy has various effects on the physique of men in particular. This occurs as soy contains Isoflavones which is similar to the hormone estrogen. When soy is consumed in large quantities it causes an imbalance in the hormone levels. The testosterone levels in the body get affected and are reduced causing negative effects on men. The reduction in testosterone levels causes effects such as lack of sex drive, lower sperm count, erectile problems and weight gain. This could not only cause physical discomfort but could in certain cases also affect a person mentally if they are not aware of what is happening to them. It has been observed that the testosterone levels in men reduce after the age of 30 and they automatically start to gain weight. Men should therefore avoid having too much of soy in order to maintain a healthy testosterone level.

Soy is also rich in antioxidants and has also been found to help lower high cholesterol as it is also high in omega 3 fatty acids. Due to the antioxidants and the isoflavones soy also helps reduce the risk of prostrate cancer and helps build stronger and healthier bones.
