It works to reduce your cholesterol levels and keeps your blood pressure in check by dilating your arteries and reducing stress on your heart. Thus it is beneficial to go hiking atleast once a week. Indulging in this exercise also increase the production of HDL; the good cholesterol in your body that protects your heart and tones the heart muscles.

It gives you a complete workout and helps to tone the legs and calves while ensuring that you loose weight on your thighs. It will also make the muscles on your legs stronger. Before you start hiking you must make sure that you use good footwear that will protect your feet and prevent injuries.
In the presence of nature you are sure to get some degree of mental happiness and bliss. In times of stress it is best to exercise to get rid of all mental baggage and hiking in the woods or to the mountains is a great way to get the some relief from the stressors of daily life. If you hike in the early hours of the morning you are also able to get a huge does of Vitamin D.
Taking a hike once in a while is a good way to break the monotony of going to the gym daily and getting into the routine of using the same machines and workout equipment. You will get a great workout and a dose of the great outdoors when you are hiking.
