The Problem Of Joint Pain During Pregnancy

Becoming pregnant and giving birth to a beautiful baby is one of the most beautiful events in any woman’s life. Women should take care of their health during pregnancy. Special care should be taken for bones and joints at this important time. Strong bones and joints will ensure that would be mothers are able to take care of themselves.

The bones of the body especially those near the joints become weak due to excess pressure. Care for pelvic joint is most important at the time of pregnancy. The weight of the womb depends to large extend on the strength of pelvic joint. The pelvic joint includes four bones joint together; two bones at the back and two bones in the front by symphysis pubis. When legs perform any movement the symphysis pubis holds the pelvis in place. But if the ligaments stretch too much it will result in pelvic joint pain.

The main symptoms of pelvic joint pain include pain in the pubic area. The pain increases while climbing upstairs or walking. If such pain persists, special care should be taken by the women and their doctors before dismissing it as a part of normal pregnancy. This pain may occur mainly during three to six months of pregnancy.

The best way to prevent pelvic joint pain and other types of joint pains is to have a complete medical checkup from time to time. Taking X-rays should be avoided during pregnancy. Painkillers can be taken but their use should be moderate as they can have side-effects on the developing fetus. Dairy products like milk, cheese and curd should be included in the diet.

Take many servings of fruits and green leafy vegetables during whole day. Mild exercises like slow walking can be included in daily routine for proper functioning of joints during pregnancy. Try to take adequate rest. Keep away from the stressful situation, as much as possible, as it can adversely affect the bones. Take extra care of the joints as it will ensure birth of a healthy baby too.
