
I was the kind of person who jumped onto a can of an energy drink every time I felt my energy levels depleting. This lead to me grabbing about 2 to 3 drinks a day and the sad demise of my health within a few months. Energy drinks are addictive and the more you consume them the greater risk you are causing your body. You will feel energized but this is for a few hours and then you feel exhausted once again. The energy drinks are loaded with sugar and caffeine and both these products in large quantities are harmful to your body.
The stimulant that is added to energy drinks is caffeine. This causes havoc in your body. One of the minor and most common threats is dehydration; however there are more problems that it creates. It will cause insomnia and irritation as a result of lack of sleep. It also causes nervousness without any reason. It also shows an increase in blood pressure and hence those with heart conditions must avoid these drinks.
Though the sugars in the drink cause an outburst of energy it leads to a crash in your bodily functions within a few hours. The huge amounts of sugar also causes weight gain and tooth decay. If your energy drink claims to be sugar free then it is more harmful as it is loaded with more caffeine than those with sugar in them. Both varieties are dangerous.
Though most energy drinks boast of being loaded with vitamins and minerals; the impact of them in the form of an energy drink is questionable. Drinking an energy drink once in a while is not harmful to your body but if it is a habit it may lead to dependence and this is where the trouble begins.
If you are already fighting a dependence on energy drinks then you need not worry for there is a simple way to get out of the habit. The only thing you need it you will power. The first few days that you are trying to kick the habit is the most difficult. It is the time when you will feel drained and sick. Reduce all work and personal appointments or take a few days off from your commitments. Let your body rest and sleep as much as you can. This will help you body to get accustomed to slowing down. Within a few days you will notice that you are not dependant on an energy drink to boost your energy levels. If you cannot resist the urge then drink a glass of water with sugar in it. Then slowly avoid the sugar and start with only water.
