
While you are aware of most of the things that you should do during your pregnancy, there are several things and daily chores that can harm you and your child.
One of the most common things to avoid is eating junk food. The problem with junk food is that they fill your stomach however they do not provide you with the essential nutrients that your body needs.
You should avoid X-rays as far as possible. Always keep your doctor and dentist informed about your pregnancy and avoid contact with these harmful rays till after your baby is born.
Animal ticks that are common to cats and dogs open you to the risk of Lyme disease. The disorder put you at risk of a miscarriage. It would be best to keep all house pets away during the term of your pregnancy and for the few months after the birth of the child. If you have pets at home then you must avoid bathing them or exposing yourself to their feces. Do not change the kitty litter if you have cats; if you have dogs then get a dog walker to walk them.
Keep yourself away from reptiles such as like lizards, snakes and turtles. The transfer a virus known as salmonella virus through their feces and this virus is extremely dangerous to your baby. If you do come in contact with any reptiles even for a short period be sure to tell your doctor about it.
Never commit to any activities that increase your body temperature rapidly. This would include exercising, working outside on a hot day or a steam bath or sauna. Getting a fever when you are pregnant is harmful to the development of the fetus and can cause brain damage if your body temperature rises above 102.
Do not stand close to the microwave while cooking or heating food. The rays that are used to cook the food can have an adverse effect on you.
In addition to the above never consume alcohol or expose yourself to smoke even if it is second hand smoke. Social smoking is not acceptable either as smoke in any form leads to birth defects and brain damage.
