Tips on How to Quit Smoking

Smoking causes an array of problems ranging from detrimental to your physical health, mental health to putting your loved ones at risk of inhaling second hand smoke.

To give up smoking you need to want too do it rather than be forced to do it. You need to be mentally prepared to give it up knowing fully well the risks that it posses for you and your family. Know fully well that by giving up the habit you will gain physical as well as mental health and will benefit financially as well.

If you have decided to give up smoking then you must set a target date by when you plan to be smoke free. Keep in mind that you cannot stop smoking immediately and that you will need to reduce the number of cigarettes gradually before you can give up completely.

If you are taking anti depressant pills then you must wait a week or two before you can kick the butt completely.

Quitting will make you gain weight quickly so you must take care to get onto an effective diet before you can start the quitting process to balance out the weight that you stand to gain after you quit.

Remove all objects that will tempt you to smoke from your household. Cigarette lighters, ashtrays and curios need to be packed away.

Reward yourself for passing a mile stone and going without smoke. Set smaller targets like 1week smoke free. The reward should never be a cigarette.

Use a smoker’s patch or chew gum to take your mind of smoking. This will be difficult but you will be able to master it eventually. You can try meditative exercises to help you to quit smoking. Focus your energies to take your thoughts away from nicotine and tobacco.

Take up a sport that will drain you physically and take your mind off smoking completely.
