Tips to Avoid PMS

Premenstrual Stress or PMS is the something that all women dread. This occurs a few days before the woman menstruates. The common symptoms of PMS are headaches and stomach aches, fatigue, bloating, water retention and cramps. Most women suffer from mood swings and depression. This is a very stressful period in a woman’s life and it occurs every month. Some women are fortunate and they do not suffer from PMS however there are others that suffer every month. There are a few precautions that you can take to reduce the effect of PMS; if you are lucky then you may be able to prevent it completely.

The first thing you need to do is reduce the amount of caffeine you consume. Caffeine has adverse effects on your health and thus it must be avoided completely. Alcohol has the same effect as caffeine has on your body and hence you must avoid drinking alcohol too. Drink a glass of water when you are thirsty; water is the best form of hydration and it reduces water retention and bloating.

You need to make a few changes in your diet if you want to avoid PMS. Green leafy vegetables will reduce bloating and joints pain. Fresh fruits reduce water retention and ease the discomfort of stomach ache. Fruits also prevent stomach cramps to some extent. You must add these foods to your diet in order to reduce the symptoms of PMS.

You must reduce your consumption of dairy products for a few days of the month. Milk, cheese and other dairy products increase the possibility of PMS and cause restlessness.

Salty foods and processed foods are high in sodium content and it must be avoided in order to prevent the symptoms of PMS. Eating a healthy well balanced diet will be beneficial.

You must take multi vitamins to decrease your possibility of PMS. Take a few calcium supplements in order to strengthen your bones; it will prevent joints pain.

Exercising regularly will reduce your stress levels. Aerobics and walking will ease joints pain and also prevent water retention.
