Tips To Help Prevent Food Cravings When On A Diet

You want to loose weight, you are good with working out and eating healthy, plus, you have the will power to resist junk food, but the one thing troubling you is the sudden cravings you have in the middle of the day. Don’t worry, there is help and it is pretty simple to do.

Firstly, make sure you never skip breakfast. This is the worst mistake anyone can make. Why? Well, normally we sleep for at least 7 to 8 hours every night, this means your body has been without food for that entire period and now it needs the fuel. If you skip breakfast your brain will keep sending signals throughout the day that you are hungry. Your breakfast has to be more protein and less complex carbohydrates. So go ahead, have an egg every morning, boil it instead of frying and have it on a whole wheat toast.

Eat a fruit like a banana or an apple to give you the natural sugar that gives your body the energy it requires. Firstly, we need to understand why we get cravings, this happens when the sugar levels in your blood drops. When you stay hungry for long periods of time, your sugar levels will drop and that is a reason why you should never skip your meals.

The best way to avoid cravings is to keep eating healthy every 2 to 3 hours. That way you never give your brain a chance to send hungry signals.

Your snacks should have some sort of sugar, and no, that does not mean you eat a pastry or those yummy chocolate chip cookies. What you need is complex sugar, which is actually good for your body as it is a source of energy. This is available in plenty in all fruits and even dry fruits like prunes or apricots. These are also easy to stock as compared to fresh fruits and don’t spoil that easy. Keep a jar of nuts and dry fruits at your desk and every few hours snack on a fistful. Drink a large glass of water with it as it fills you up.

Look for packaged foods which have zero transfats and are low on cholesterol as another option, but keep in mind what’s natural is always more healthy.

Of course, once in a way go ahead and eat that yummy chocolate cake if you are craving it. It’s best not to deprive your body too much or for too long, because this mostly results in binging and that is worse as you tend to go overboard.
