Tips to Help You Control Your Temper

Getting angry or loosing your temper is a very natural human behavior. All of us are faced with situations in everyday life which trigger this off.

Though it is very normal and sometimes important as well to let it out, all of us know that ‘anger’ is a negative emotion which when goes out of control can actually be harmful to health. High blood pressure is directly related to anger and this can affect the heart.

This not only affects your health, but also your relationships with people in your life.

When faced with a situation that triggers anger, make an effort to stay calm. Don’t say anything at all, close your eyes or clench your fist and take a few deep breaths. This will calm you. If it is possible, walk away from the scene. If the opposite person is someone you are comfortable with, ask him/her to leave you alone.

Try thinking of something funny or a person who makes you happy. Try saying words like “relax” in your mind.

If your life is a complete mess personally and professionally, it could make you negative in general towards everything. Engage yourself in some sort of sport like squash or exercise like kick boxing which helps to let out the frustrations. Alternatively, try running on the treadmill or outside. Try some strenuous physical activity where you need to utilize a lot of your energy. This has proven to help people.

Alternately, try yoga. There are a lot yoga exercises which help in calming and relaxing plus this provides long term health benefits.

If a particular habit of someone close to you is the trigger every single day, talk to the person when you are calm. Be reasonable and try looking for solutions. Ask the people who are important in your life to help you.

If it is a colleague, talk to the person and be professional.

Sometimes, ignoring a situation or the annoying habit of someone is also beneficial. Everything can’t be changed or controlled.

Anger will only ruin your health and life, after all no one likes to be around someone who is always screaming. If you feel you need more help, look for any anger management workshops that can help you further.
