In addition to preventing diseases a healthy diet keeps you physically fit and mentally alert. If you are trying to maintain a healthy diet but are unable to do so then here are a few tips for you.
One of the first things you need to do is visit a dietitian in order to understand the amount of food and the appropriate food options for you. Your diet needs to suit your age, gender and the kind of work that you do. It is best to consult a dietitian in order to get the right advice about a healthy nutritious diet.
After you have spoken with your dietitian you need to work out your meal times; always eat at the same time as this helps your digestive system to work and process the food that you eat. You need to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner as your 3 basic meals. In addition to this you need to include snack times in your schedule. If you are trying to eliminate eating snacks during the day then you will need to cut down your portion size and eat 5 to 6 meals in the day.
In order to maintain a healthy diet you need to eat a healthy serving of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. While you are increasing the amount of healthy foods that you consume you will also need to reduce the portion of unhealthy foods that you eat. Avoid eating red meats, pastas and white bread. You also need to reduce your consumption of refined sugar, fats and carbohydrates.
Increasing the amount of protein and fiber will keep your digestive system functional. Include eggs, poultry, beans, nuts and peas in your diet. You must also eat liver and cheese. You need to eat 4 servings of fruit and vegetables daily. You will also need to include 3 servings of dairy in your diet. This includes milk, butter, cheese, yogurt or buttermilk.
Drinking water during the day is one of the bet ways to maintain your health and to stay fit. Water keeps your skin hydrated and increases the elasticity of your skin while also eliminating the toxins from your body. Water is the best form of hydration as it contains zero calories.
