Beside a healthy diet, one of the most important things for a pregnant woman is to be able to sleep well. And yet this seems like a very difficult task. With your growing baby bump you find it difficult to sleep on your back while it is not recommended to sleep on your stomach from the very day that you get pregnant. There are a few things that you can do to ensure that you get a good night’s sleep. Some of the other reasons that you may not be able to sleep are lack of exercise, too much exertion or fatigue.
What you must try and do is not sleep on your back but on your side. Sleeping on the left side is more comfortable for some reason though there is no evidence to prove that it is more beneficial to sleeping on your right side. If you have trouble sleeping then prop a pillow under your tummy for support while you rest. Keep your legs elevated by propping a few pillows below your feet. This is the time for you to rest like a Queen.
Before you go to bed; walk for atleast 20 minutes. Then have a warm glass of milk. This will help to calm you down and have a relaxed rest. You can also choose to have a warm bath before you go to bed. Use aromatic lavender oils in an electric diffuser before you go to bed to help you relax. Having a cup of warm herbal tea also helps to calm your senses and induce sleep. Since the tea is herbal there is no fear of side effects.
If you have trouble sleeping at night then chances are that you are drowsy all day. You must grab a few minutes of sleep during the day as well to keep your energy levels up. A power nap in the afternoon will help to charge you for the next few hours of the day.
