Drying, cracking and chapping can be observed mainly during a changing weather. This is mainly because lips are not able to form natural oil for protection against adverse weather conditions like cold winds or low humidity. The cracking of lips occurs when lips are exposed to cold winds or sun for considerably long time. Sometimes application of allergic cosmetic solutions may also lead to this problem.
Other factors responsible for drying, chapping and cracking of lips include skin infection, use of soaps which contain harmful chemicals, dehydration, deficiency of vitamins in the body, excessive smoking, etc. The health disorders like macrocytosis, sjogren’s syndrome, Kawasaki, certain skin diseases etc can also lead to the problem of lips.
Cracking, bleeding, mild pain, lack of moister on the lips, redness, roughness, dryness, tenderness etc are the main symptoms of the chapped lips. Due to the dryness of the lips and cracks the person suffering this problem can be seen licking his or her lips very frequently. Sometimes this frequent licking of lips may make the cracks more wide making them more painful and bleeding. Use of a good quality moisturizer is advisable to avoid frequent licking.
In most of the cases the disorders related to skin are mainly due to the deficiency of vitamins in our body and therefore if you are experiencing the cracking, drying or chapping of lips very frequently, you should take care of your vitamin intake. Consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables on a regular basis is the best way to supply vitamins to the body. The important vitamins for a healthy skin include vitamin A, B, C and E and hence you should take food containing these vitamins as your regular diet.
A good quality balm or lipstick can be used to keep the lips well moisturized and to avoiding cracking. Rubbing cucumber slice gently on the lips gives a quick relief from chapped lips. A well hydrated body is less prone to skin disorders and therefore you should drink water and water based fluid in plenty every day.
