Your diet at the time of your pregnancy is the only form of nutrition for your child. What you eat effects your child’s development. You will receive advice from everyone from the doctor to the co- worker on the next desk who has had multiple successful pregnancies. The best bet is the most scientific approach to this situation.

Remember this is the time where you are eating to have a healthy baby and it is not the time to count the calories in your food. Eat plenty of healthy food and avoid junk food; however you must give into your cravings from time to time. You will need to add an additional 300 calories to your daily diet in order to ensue that your baby is getting sufficient nutrition.

You need to eat a balanced diet with vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber and calcium. Fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and milk should consume about 70 percent of your diet. Remember, if you eat healthy then you are more likely to stay fit and healthy during your pregnancy. It also ensures the health of your child.

Most women do not get the daily recommended dose of calcium. You must ensure that you are taking supplements if that is the case when you are pregnant. Milk and dairy products are the richest source of calcium and you can stand to get the best dosage from these products.

Your gynecologist will also recommend folic acid supplements. In fact you must increase the amount of folic acid in your system 4 to 6 months before you conceive. It is an extremely important mineral that is required during the term of your pregnancy. Lack of folic acid affects the child after birth.

In addition to eating well to be healthy and ensure the health of the child; you must also avoid caffeine, alcohol and nicotine even in the smallest dose. Exercise is important to keep you fit. Obviously you cannot do rigorous exercises but you must walk for 30 minutes daily and go for a swim once a week.
