Heredity, environmental conditions and personal habits have an effect on the texture of your skin. If your skin is oily; then you are generally prone to acne, pimples and zits. You need to take more care than other skin types to protect your skin.

Firstly, you need to wash your face every few hours to get rid of the oily build up on your face that makes your skin look dull and lifeless. Use a face wash that is especially for oily skin. Stay clear from fragranced types as they can cause a negative reaction. Pat dry your face.

Keep your make up as light as possible and use makeup only when absolutely necessary. Always use oil free foundation and other make up products. Use a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation for daily use.

Exfoliate your skin with an apricot or almond scrub daily. This will help to get rid of the dead skin cells on your face. You can try a sugar scrub as well. The sugar will effectively lift away the dirt and grime from your face.

Steam your face three times a week as this opens up your pores. The open pores will then secrete all the oily build up that it has under the skin.

Hydrate your skin well. Exercise to flush out unnecessary toxins and drink several glasses of water daily to replenish your skin.

Increase green vegetables in your diet. Steam, bake or boil your vegetables. Avoid stir frying your food. Increase fruits in your diet. The average servings of fruits and vegetables in your diet should be 5 to 6. Skip junk foods and snack on carrot and celery instead. Avoid colas and caffeine and drink water o fruit juices.

If you are going to expose your skin to the sun then always use a sun block or sunscreen of high SPF.
