Treatment of Migraine Using Essential Oils

The problem of migraine is mainly characterized by one sided consistent headache. The pain due to migraine is more severe in areas above eyes. Apart from these basic symptoms, inability to concentrate, a quick shift in mood, abnormal sensitivity to light, decreased energy level of body etc are the symptoms of migraine. The neurological disorder leading to migraine is more common in women as compared to men.
The problem becomes more common during pregnancy. The disorders like stress, excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks, smoking, allergy, abnormal periods, use of contraceptive pills etc can lead to the problem of migraine. In some cases genetic factors and a sudden change in the climatic conditions may also be responsible for this problem.
Unfortunately the exact reason and successful treatment of migraine is not known today. However there are a number of treatments which can reduce the symptoms of the disease. In some patients the problems like hypersensitivity, blurred vision, titillating sensation in face etc are also observed as the symptoms of migraine.
The person suffering from migraine experiences a persistent one side headache and is not able to perform daily activities properly. He feels a lack of energy and lack of appetite and on a long term the disease may be characterized by extreme weakness. Once the attack of migraine occurs the symptoms may last for 1 to 3 days. The person becomes loose tempered and irritated during this period.
It has been found that a major fraction of people suffering from migraine use over the counter pain killers to get a quick relief from the pain due to migraine. However, a prolonged used of these pain killer may have other health complications and therefore it is wise to avoid these medications.
There are a number of home based treatments of migraine which are safer and easier to use. The essential oils of aromatherapy are highly beneficial in case of migraine. The blends of essential oils made from lavender, rosemary, peppermint, eucalyptus etc are very helpful in providing quick relief from the symptoms of migraine. Essential oil made of ginger is also very effective in case of pain due to migraine. A gentle massage on the affected areas with these essential oils gives a quick relief from the pain.
