Yeast infections are known by the name of Candida as well. A group of yeast or microscopic fungi cause this infection and there are about twenty species of Candida. Yeast infection can develop in lower abdomen, vagina, under the breast, around dentures and underneath skin folds. These infections tend to occur at any age.
Although, yeast infections are believed to be a problem among women, men are also affected by such infections and this is particularly true for a man, whose partner is suffering from this problem, as sex passes the contagion back and forth.

Home Remedies for Yeast Infection in Women
Add ground basil of about 11/4 teaspoons to 31/2 cups of boiling water. Remove from heat, cover and steep for about thirty minutes and then use the cooled tea to gargle. You can also consume 1 cup of this tea, sweetened to taste using the maple syrup twice a day.
The burning and itching sensation can be relieved by using the tea prepared from rosemary. This tea can be dabbed onto the external part or as a douche. You can drink about one to four cups of thyme tea made by boiling 1 cup of boiling water and 1 teaspoon of thyme tea.
Plain yogurt has ‘good bacteria’, which helps in fighting against the yeast infection. It can be used internally as well as externally. However, make sure that you do not buy unsweetened yogurt. You can use the yogurt maker to make your own plain yogurt.
The advantage of making your own yogurt is that you can replace the regular milk with almond or soy milk too. Whether homemade or purchased yogurt, it is excellent to eat and also has ‘good bacteria’, which aids digestion.
Garlic is one of the most effective remedies for yeast infection, as it has antifungal properties. It also gives instant relief. Insert a garlic clove or garlic tab into the vagina once in few hours. This provides soothing relief. In case, you are using garlic tabs, make sure the ingredients present in it is natural and pure.
Garlic can of course be taken internally too. You can either take the garlic tabs available in the market or you can consume a whole garlic clove at a time.
Besides several health benefits, apple-cider vinegar is also quite effective in treating the yeast infection. It can be used internally and externally. As the vinegar is quite strong, it is not suggested to use it directly on the affected area. Although, it will destroy the yeast, the burning sensation is too much to bear!
Therefore, the best way is to add about 1 cup of vinegar into the bath water and use it for a nice hot bath, which is not only soothing and relaxing, but will also help temporarily.
Oil of Oregano
This amazing herb is very powerful in fighting against yeast. You can take it internally every day or as directed. The content of carvacrol must be quite high in the oil, as it is the active ingredient.
Besides these remedies, practicing good hygiene, staying dry and loose, avoiding harsh soaps and using feminine hygiene products will help in preventing the yeast infections.
