There are various methods of taking care of dry skin and some tips are mentioned below.
Useful Tips for Skin Care for Dry Skin
Dry Skin Care for Body
Dry skin can cause cellulite in your body parts and it sags faster. You need to take regular care of dry skin to maintain moisture and elasticity of the skin. The first step towards dry skin care is lubrication.
Massage your body with coconut oil, olive oil or mustard oil once a week in summers and twice or thrice a week in winters to keep it moisturised all year round.
Massage with warm oil so that it penetrates deep in to the skin and leave it on for 20 minutes before you take a bath.
Use Lukewarm Water for Bath
Do not bathe in hot water as it will accelerate dryness in the skin. Use lukewarm water for bathing as hot water can damage skin cells and cause wrinkles and sagging of the skin.
Avoid Using Soap
Avoid using soap on your body as it contains harmful chemicals and it soaks up natural moisture of the skin. Use a body wash and scrub the body with loofah to remove dead skin. Use a body scrub once a week to exfoliate the skin. It helps to deep cleanse the pores and expels all impurities from the skin.
You can use a homemade body scrub for dry skin care. Make homemade body scrub with ½ cup wheat husk, ½ cup gram flour and ¼ tea spoon turmeric powder. Mix them together and make a smooth paste with whey (curd water).
Apply it all over the body and leave it on for 10 minutes. Afterwards gently scrub it off. Bathe with lukewarm water and do not use soap or body wash. It will remove all impurities from the skin and leave it soft and supple.
Apply Moisturiser after Bath
After bath pat dry your body and apply a moisturiser while it is still damp. This way the moisturiser spreads easily and it quickly gets absorbed in the skin. Take extra care of your hands and feet.
Dry Skin Care for Face
Your face is exposed to all kinds of environmental onslaught, hence you have to take extra care of dry skin under all weather conditions, especially in winters. Use facial cleanser instead of soap to wash your face as cleanser has a gentle effect on the skin. You can use a mixture of cold milk and rose water for cleansing.
For exfoliation make a face scrub with two tea spoon walnut powder, one tea spoon honey and milk. Gently scrub the face for 2-3 minutes and wash with normal water. Use the scrub once or twice a week.
Face Mask for Dry Skin
Face mask rejuvenates the skin and it stimulates growth of skin cells. Face mask should be applied on weekly basis for dry skin care. Take yolk of one egg, one table spoon honey and one table spoon milk powder. Mix well and apply it on your face and neck for 15-20 minutes. Wash it off with normal water.
Take ½ cup mashed papaya; add two table spoons yogurt and one tea spoon lemon juice. Mix well and apply on your face and neck for 20 minutes. Wash it off with normal water. Papaya is a natural moisturiser, it softens the skin and it adds a glow to your face.
Protect Dry Skin
Winter winds can dry up natural moisture of the skin; people with dry skin should apply a heavy moisture on their face while going out. Dry skin is prone to sun burn and peeling. Protect your skin from harsh sun rays and wear a sun block lotion while moving outdoors during the day.
Care for Dry Lips
People with dry skin tend to have dry and chapped lips. Apply warm pure ghee at night to lubricate dry lips. It helps to heal the cracks and soften the lips, Massage dry lips with a few drops of almond oil at bed time to stimulate blood circulation and to moisturise the lips.
