Varicose Veins Treatments for Men

Varicose veins are also known as spider veins. They look like a network of protruding veins that are bright red or black in color and they peep through the skin. There are a few factors that contribute to this condition and though it is common to women some men suffer from this condition too. Obesity, smoking, lack of physical activity, exertion, standing for long hours and high blood pressure are some of the factors that cause this condition.

Preventive measures:

If you are a smoker then quitting will be in your best interest. It reduces the appearance of the veins and also prevents them from causing any pain. Watching your weight and preventing excess weight gain is another way to control this condition. Keep a close eye on your diet and start a rigorous exercise regiment if notice rapid weight gain. Drink plenty of water and keep your skin well hydrated. Avoid standing for long periods; however if your job requires you to do so then you must take breaks every hour for a few minutes. This will increase blood circulation. When you are standing avoid being in one position for too long. Walk around for a few minutes to keep the blood circulation constant.

In some cases aging causes the appearance of the veins on your legs. This is because the vein looses it elasticity and is unable to cope with the amount of blood that is being pumped through it. If this is the case then exercising daily for 30 to 45 minutes will help to reduce the appearance of the veins. You do not need to go to the gym to exercise; walking around the neighborhood or around the mall will help to ease the veins and suppress them.

If the veins appear dark and they cause pain then you must sit with your legs on a high stool in such a manner that it is above your chest.

Use a cold compress on the affected area to get rid of the veins. It will reduce the swelling and get rid of the pain at the same time.
