Colon cancer is also known as colorectal cancer and is the type of cancer that grows in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the third largest cause of cancer related deaths in the western world. More and more researches are going on to determine as to how to prevent this disease; as a huge number of people are being diagnosed with colon cancer every day. Since prevention is far better than cure, hence we should always consider the ways to prevent colon cancer.Family medical history: Colon cancer is a genetic disease and is hereditary. Though most colon cancer patients have no family history of that disease, yet this disease can be hereditary. One can fall into the high-risk category because of the family history. Stop smoking: Smoking cigarettes can affect the health of the whole body. Chain-smoking boosts the possibility of emergent of colon cancer. By breathing in tobacco, one can basically transmit carcinogen to the rectum and colon, which is fatal and thereby ensures the development of colon cancer. So, one must always try to quit smoking.
Exercise: Regular exercise can reduce the possibility of developing colon cancer by around 40%. Exercise is a way of moving different organs of the body and hence the stool present in the large intestine also moves. Since exercise rouses peristalsis, which is a wave-like powerfully built incongruity, it helps in pushing the waste through the colon. Hence, exercise helps in regularizing of a bowel movement thereby moving the toxin out of the body.
Diet: Diet plays a vital role in the prevention of developing colon cancer. One needs to intake a lot of green leafy vegetables like cabbage, Brussels sprout, etc., which also helps in clearing of stools. Carrot, beets, onions and potatoes also have a good amount of fiber in them and are good in preventing colon cancer. Among fruits, berries, cantaloupes, mangoes, papayas have plenty of vitamin A and C in them. Besides these fruits, watermelons, honeydew, apple, pineapple, cherries, peaches, pears, grapes, oranges, lemons, etc. are a part of healthy diet.
Radiation: One must also be careful regarding excessive exposure to the radiations like CT scans, X-rays, mammograms, as it is harmful and can make the healthy normal cells behave abnormal. It has been found as one of the causes of the development of colon cancer.
