What Foods Effectively Relieve Constipation

October 27, 2009

Its not one of the most uncommon ailments to suffer from and yet it is not the easiest to cure. In our quest to prevent or get relief from constipation we must remember that loading up on anti biotic medications in not the answer; the remedies lies in the diet that is maintained and the foods that you eat when you are suffering from constipation. Certain foods ensure regular bowel movements and will give you relief from your condition.

You must keep in mind that all foods that are high in fiber are the ones that act as a home remedy for the condition. Fiber in the foods that you eat causes the stomach to process the foods that you eat and promote bowel movements.

Foods like apples and oatmeal during breakfast are sure to make your bowels move to eliminate waste from the body. You also need to add wheat bran to your diet. This can be purchased at almost any food store and it can be mixed with cakes, muffins, breads and pasta. Since it is a fiber rich food it aids constipation. A bowl of either wheat bran or oatmeal daily will ensure that you have a bowel movement daily.

Legumes like kidney beans, lentils and baked beans are good if you are eating them regularly. They not only help to relieve any signs of constipation you also are able to control your weight.

Research now states that foods that are high in resistant starch are a good option. This includes bananas, tomatoes, boiled potatoes and pastas that are not spicy.

Remember that opting for laxatives to relieve you of the stress that you are in should not be the first option. It should ideally be the last resort. It is okay to be constipated once in a while; however if you are constipated for a few days in a week then it may be a sign of some other medical condition and you must seek medical attention in this case.
