Why do We Need Vitamin D and How to Get It
We are already aware of the fact that our body requires high amounts of Vitamin D to help to build strong bones and teeth. In addition to this, it helps to keep our weight down, elevate moods and keeps cancer at bay. The problem here is that we are unable to get our daily dose of Vitamin D.
Drinking a glass of milk daily is a good way to help to increase the amount of Vitamin D our body receives daily; however the best source still is the sun. The increasing cases of skin cancer has scared us to a point where we slather on huge doses of sunscreen to ward off the sun and hence we are unable to get our daily required dose.
According to recent research, vitamin D is known to reduce the possibility of ovarian, breast, colon and prostate cancer. Scientists have proved that Vitamin D protects healthy cells and prevents the growth of cancerous cells.
How to get Vitamin D safely?
Safe exposure to the sun is important. The best time to get into the sunlight is between 10 am and 3 pm. Even during this time you must limit your exposure to 10 minute intervals. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes and a hat to protect your hair and head. Slather on a healthy does of sunscreen to protect your skin against age spots, wrinkles and fine lines that may be caused as a result of over exposure to the sun.
If you do not have the time to lie around and get your sun exposure then you can try multi tasking like walking around an open market for your grocery shopping rather than shopping at the super market. You can also try your jogging routines during the day so that you can your Vitamin D dose at this time. You can also walk the dog in the morning before you head out to work; you will kill two birds with one shot.
