Winter is the season to be proactive with your skin care routine. The dry winter air makes your skin flakey, itchy and unsightly. Your lips tend to crack and cause pain and in extreme cases even bleed. This is the holiday season, the season where you are expect to put your best foot forward and your skin needs to speak volumes about you.

Home remedies for winter skin

Hydrate your skin. Drinking water in this season seems the most unlikely thing as you may not feel thirsty. Nevertheless keep your skin hydrated. The water should be room temperature or you may choose to drink warm water. Stay clear of alcoholic beverages, fizzy and aerated drinks as far as possible and binge on water.

Use a good moisturizer and use it often. Remember a good cream or moisturizer does not necessarily need to be the most expensive one in the market. Almond and avocado oils are recommended.

Do not use a face scrub that you use in summer as your skin is dry cracked and flakey and the summer scrub may cause more damage. Using an almond based scrub for winter is advisable as the oils from the almonds will nourish your skin.

Do not spend long hours in the shower or bath tub as the water will dry out your skin further. Keep showers short and avoid very hot water. Use a good moisturizer immediately after your bath as your skin will absorb more at this point in time. Pay keen attention to your hands and feet and your cheeks. Baking soda added to your bath water will nourish your skin.

The palms of your hands ands soles of your feet tend to have skin peeling off them. A simple way to take care of this is to use gloves and socks after a moisturizer
