An Introduction To Shoulder Exercises

Like any other part of our body,our shoulders also need to be exercised properly. Lack of proper movement of the shoulders may lead to problems like development of pain in the shoulder blades.

Regular exercising of the shoulders helps to improve their flexibility and also helps in toning them up.Your shoulders will prove to be weak if you have undergone a shoulder surgery. By performing shoulder exercises, you can very well improve the strength of your shoulder muscles.

It is important that you do a wide variety of workouts to exercise your shoulders.There are many shoulder exercises which you can perform very easily at the comforts of your home and at the same time reap tremendous benefits.

You can do a shoulder press by standing with your feet wide apart. Bend your elbows and raise your hands up to the shoulders by holding in your abdomen.Push your arms straight towards the ceiling with your palm facing the ceiling.Take care not to bend your arms while doing this. Hold the position till the count of 10 and slowly lower your arms down.

Repeat this exercise for 10 times at a stretch. You can also do a pull up by extending your arms in a forward direction by placing the elbows at your waist. Pull the elbows back,squeeze your shoulder blades and raise arms up to shoulder level.Slowly lower down your arms to the initial position after 10 seconds.

Another form of exercise which helps in toning up the shoulders are push ups.Get down on all fours by positioning your knees and hands on a mat placed on the floor.Your legs should be crossed and your arms should be placed directly under your shoulders.

Lower yourself towards the floor by bending your arms and pulling in your buttocks and abdominal muscles.For maximum results,this exercise should be repeated at least 10 times a day.

By performing the above said shoulder exercises ,you will be able to increase the muscle strength and flexibility.But you should take care not to overexert yourself and wear down the shoulder muscles.

Continuous exercises may sometimes prove to be very hard on the delicate shoulder muscles.So it is necessary that you take a break once in a while and relax your shoulder muscles.

Also do not strain your shoulders and take care to distribute all the weight you carry evenly between your two shoulders.
