Ayurvedic Medicine As First Aid

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medicinal science. It is a form of alternative medicine that has its origin in the Indian subcontinent but has got popularized all over the world.

This form of alternative medicine is very ancient and mention of ayurvedic medicine practitioners are found in ancient scriptures. They had used a number of surgical procedures and medical preparations, efficiency and healing power of which can be easily compared with modern medicine.

The Ayurvedic system of medicine is based on the principle that a properly functioning metabolic activity, good digestion and excretion of waste products from the body are the three factors which ensure healthy living.

It therefore focuses on yoga, meditation and massage. To ensure proper health, both the mind and the physical state of the body, needs to exist in harmony.

Ayurvedic medicine is natural and can be made from home based materials. The medicines are known to have the least levels of side effects and therefore pose lesser risk than the conventional means of treatment.

Common Ayurvedic remedies play a very potent role in acting as first aid for common ailments and their symptoms. Some of these symptoms with their ayurvedic medicine utilized as first aid are discussed in the paragraphs below.

For Sudden Attacks Of Asthma

A teaspoonful of ginger powder added to the same amount of licorice powder gives a mixture that is boiled in half a litre of water. The entire mixture needs to be boiled till it gets reduced to one fourth of the total volume.

Strain the product and then ask the victim suffering from Asthma to have it warm. A teaspoonful of honey added to the mixture or a gram of common salt is an effective ayurvedic remedy for sudden attacks of asthma.

For Curing Backache

A very common problem occurring in all age groups, backache can be treated by applying a paste of ginger on the affected area. Other that ginger, Eucalyptus oil extract is another ayurvedic medicine that has been found to reduce stiffness of the back considerably.

One can also apply home-made remedial oil for back pain. Garlic pieces mixed and boiled in sesame or mustard oil applied warm on the affected area is known to offer relief from pain.

For External Bleeding

To stop any kind of external bleeding, apply a paste of sandalwood powder on the affected area stops bleeding as well as fastens the healing process. A paste of turmeric powder too is known to produce the same effects. Warm milk with half a teaspoon of turmeric powder added with a little of saffron acts as a good pain reliever. The mixture also helps to fasten the healing process of the wound.

For Treating Burns

Extracts from aloe vera plant has a cooling effect on the burnt portion. A paste of fresh aloe vera gel and a pinch of turmeric powder added to a few grams of ghee or coconut oil makes the mixture a good and effective reliever. Leaves of Bryophyllum plant paste also have therapeutic effect on burnt areas. They calm the nerves present below the burnt skin.

For Treating Common Cold

Take fresh ginger and grate it to make a single teaspoon of paste. Add the paste to the same amount of cinnamon powder and also add a teaspoon of licorice powder to the paste.

Add the total paste to a litre of water and boil for at least ten minutes till the solution gets reduced to one fourth of the total solution. Store the solution and have it three times in a day for bets results. If you are averse to the taste then add a little amount of honey as a sweetener.

For Curing Diarrhoea

A teaspoon of freshly grated ginger added to one gram of nutmeg powder and then mixed in half a cup of water can be effective in curing Diarrhoea. Blend all the three ingredients properly for a few minutes before drinking it at least three times in a day for effective treatment for Diarrhoea.

For Pimples and Acne

For curing skin allergies and aversions add a pate of turmeric and sandalwood powder on the effected area. Mix half a teaspoon of both the powder and mix it with rose water to form a paste. The same paste can also be used to cure liver spots as well as spots left by chicken pox. For the betterment of the liver function Aloe Vera juice taken daily acts as a good remover of acne.

Treatment For Menstrual Cramps

Mix half gram of black pepper powder with a tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Take this mixture three to four times a day to relieve yourself from stomach cramps.

For Curing Arthritis

A paste of turmeric powder added to aloe vera gel is a great pain reliever. Cinnamon is known to increase the joint strength and blood circulation at the affected areas.

For Curing Infections

Leaves of Neem plant are known to possess anti bacterial properties. During attacks with contagious symptoms, neem leaves are used to delimit the spread of infection. A paste of neem leaves is also used on the burnt area to prevent the occurrence of boils or spread of infection to the other parts of the affected region.

For a Bleeding Gum

Bleeding of the gums can be stopped by using a paste of guava leaves directly on the affected parts. Lemon juice too helps in stopping bleeding of the gums. Increasing numbers of cases are coming in to the limelight where people are exposed to the risks of unwanted side effects due to the chemical components of conventional medicines.

While these are costly and some of the treatments can be painful, the guarantee for total recovery is yet to be attained. This is the main reason why people are looking towards the traditional treatments offered by Ayurvedic medicine.

Besides being reliable and cost effective, these medicines can be made from simple home based substances. The only thing that needs to be taken care of is that the use of Ayurveda has to be accompanied with a healthy life style, eating order and adequate rest and sleep. It is only then that the full effects of the natural herb can be used for the most effective treatment.
