Fish Oil Cholesterol – Is Fish Oil Good For Lowering Cholesterol?

LDL cholesterol is bad in itself but if you have high levels of triglycerides in your body then it can be much more dangerous. This is due to the fact that high triglyceride levels are associated with an increased risk of heart disease. Apart from an increased risk of heart disease, high levels of triglycerides are also closely linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. But LDL cholesterol is comparatively less dangerous if the levels of triglyceride are low.

It has been deduced that fish oil enriched with Omega-3 is exceptionally beneficial in lowering blood triglycerides. If an individual consumes 2000mg to 4000mg of fish oil supplements enriched with Omega-3’s EPA and DHA, his/her triglycerides can be reduced by about 20 to 40%. Thus, fish oil can play a crucial role in decreasing the risks created by high levels of LDL cholesterol.

If you have high levels of LDL cholesterol, you should not depend entirely on fish oil for its treatment and should consult your doctor. Also, never start taking fish oil supplements without your doctor’s permission.
