Food for Your Mood

Have you reached out to a chocolate bar or a cup of steaming coffee when you are feeling low? Perhaps you would have felt better in your mood. There is a logic behind your binging and your spirit being lifted up. Both these food contains mood lifting chemicals which makes you feel happy.

How much are you aware of the fact that food plays a great role in enhancing your mood?Our brain releases feel good chemical serotonin, which helps to cheer our mood and controls some type of depression. Many times you feel good after eating certain foods. Our happiness, good mood, sleep and appetite levels are dependent on serotonin.

When you crave for carbohydrates, understand that the serotonin level is low in the body. Food influences our emotional and mental state. It boosts our mood, memory and sense of well being and calm. Restoring the balance with mood lifting foods is the key to the modern day troubles of depression and mood swings.

To lift your mood choose protein foods such as eggs, chicken, turkey, lean red meat, and fish such as sardines mackerel, salmon, herring, tuna and cheese and milk. You can also boost serotonin levels by including broccoli, cauliflower, soya beans and bananas in your diet .Eating crunchy fennel after a meal can refresh your spirits.

Supplement your body with carbohydrates such as pasta, rice, noodles, potatoes, etc. along with the protein, this will build up your serotonin level and enhances your mood.

According to research for effective mood lifting, one cup of tea or coffee early in the morning and then no more until late afternoon is sufficient for the caffeine boost to last for several hours.

Those of you who experience mood swings and anxiety can keep away from coffee and tea, albeit caffeine is a mood enhancer it makes the matter worse.

To be spurting with good mood, eat a brazil nut daily if you are not allergic to it. If you love spicy food include more chilies in your cooking , it releases the feel good chemicals. Eating one or two ripe bananas can also keep you in high spirits.
