There are many people who have trouble in gaining weight and thus they remain underweight. Being underweight is a very unhealthy condition and it can further lead to serious health problems.Being underweight increases your risks of heart diseases and cancer. It also causes weakening of bones leading to a condition called osteoporosis in women.

Heredity is one main reason for people to remain underweight. Unhealthy and inadequate eating habits can also be the causes.

Putting on weight is not an impossible task. But it is very much important that you adopt healthy methods of weight gain.

Taking control of your diet is the first and foremost step in achieving weight gain. Eat many small meals a day. Do not skip meals. Your meals should be well balanced and rich in all the essential vitamins and nutrients.

Also include food items in your meal which will provide you with a high calorie intake. For this purpose have foods rich in carbohydrates like potatoes, rice and pasta. Protein rich food like pulses and legumes should also find a place in your diet plan.

Have plenty of fruit juices. This is not only healthy but it also provides you with a high amount of calorie intake. Also drink at least 2 glasses of milk a day. Do not resort to junk food to gain weight as it is not at all healthy.

Do make it a point to follow a regular workout routine. Aerobics and walking does not help you in gaining weight but makes you lose it. It is necessary to exercise in the right manner if you are aiming for weight gain. Always perform the exercises under the supervision of a trained instructor.

Strength training is one of the best exercises which can be done to gain weight. These exercises help in burning the body fat and builds the muscle mass, thereby increasing your body weight. Concentrate on free weight exercises using dumbbells that focuses on large muscle groups.

There are many weight gain supplements available in the market today. Creatine is a widely used weight gain supplement. But it is not advisable to take these supplements as its side effects are not completely known.

By following a healthy weight gain regime of proper diet and exercises, you can be sure to see improvements in your condition within a matter of time.
